This is by far one of my favorite books of the bible. I have used this scripture many times in my own life when I was walking through JUNK. God has also given me opportunities to share this verse with many people that I have had opportunities to minister to in the past. I have seen light come into dark places for people when they began to try and live this scripture out. I think this scripture ties right in with the scripture where God tells us that we have to have a renewing of our mind. When we face tough trials and the world says "It's your party you can cry if you want to" God's word says "Consider it pure JOy when you face trials of many kinds". WOW!!! What are your thoughts.
James 1
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this , that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Ask with confidence. Not confidence in your ability to pray well or to have a more clear line to God than anyone else. Ask with confidence that God does hear and cares. He can and does answer prayers (even the ones you don't verbalize). My wife is the answer to a prayer I didn't even know I had when I met her. If someone prays an honorable prayer with a clean heart and motives, but doesn't have faith that their prayer will be answered probably falls into one of two categories.
1. They don't believe God can answer their prayers or doesn't care about them.
2. Doesn't feel their prayer is worth Gods time and so I would ask "why would they pray it anyway then? " .
Though He may not give us everything we ask, He does care and we should approach those requests with that attitude.
Zac, I had to go to a different translation, but I think I understand it. What I'm getting from it is We don't need to be afraid of praying through times of trouble as long as We pray in faith. If We don't know what We are doing, We can pray for that too. we need to pray BOLDLY when We are going through Our "junk" and have faith in Him.
Zac,
This is a great scripture, it is just hard to be joyful when trouble comes our way. I know from experience that this is the truth, if you trust in God and pray with a pure heart and motives and have FAITH that God can and will do it then he will provide everything we need. We must be strong and rooted in the word, not the world. It is amazing to see what happens when God shows up in a time of need.
OOPS, I notice when I went to You Version to copy this scripture in I accidentally used the KJV. I normally use ESV which is a very easy read. Nice heads up J.R. This is awesome how God speaks to each one of us differently through these verses and how it is so perfect for OUR lives. I look forward to continuing.
